Small and deceptively simple, this house is layered with little surprises.

This home had big boots to fill - the previous dwelling on this site was a very charismatic two-storey post-modern Warren and Mahoney design that was not repairable after the Christchurch earthquakes.  This new iteration of the home retains some subtle echoes of the old house: the spatial arrangement is almost identical and a curved interior wall is a nod to the old circular dining room.  The home has evolved to retain these core characteristics that have stood the test of time, but now ready for the future with high-performance construction.

Entering the house is like stepping into a serene cocoon - the tactile softness of the cork flooring is evident acoustically and aesthetically. The simple geometry paired with a warm palette of materials creates a restful and cosy atmosphere that is refined and understated. Hints of the old house may remain but the clients now have a future-proof home that radiates an abundance of welcome and warmth.
